Two Stroke Animation

DIESEL ENGINE : TWO STROKE ANIMATION

This example shows the two strokes of the “two stroke diesel engine”. Such engines were manufactured by General Motors (Electro Motive Division) in North America. Note that some positions show that two things sometimes happen at the same time, namely induction and exhaust, and that the piston skirt itself constitutes a valve. The red arrow shows charged air being induced into the cylinder, and the blue arrow compressed air being exhausted from the cylinder.

(The diagrammatic representation of inlet and outlet air placement in the images should not be taken too literally!)

The user may control the animation by means of the buttons at the bottom of the form. Two modes of operation are possible, namely “Continuous Loop” or “Manual Operation.”
